Andrés Diaz
Soloist
A
native of Santiago, Chile, Andrés Díaz began studying the cello at the age
of five, later attending the Georgia Academy of Music in Atlanta and
graduating from the New England Conservatory. Since winning first prize in
the 1986 Naumburg International Cello Competition, Mr. Díaz has exhilarated
both critics and audiences with his intense and charismatic performances. He
now lives in Dallas, Texas, and has appeared with prestigious orchestras
across the country, including the National Symphony Orchestra, with James
Paul conducting. Their stunning collaboration on Leon Kirchner’s Music for
Cello and Orchestra was recognized with the first prize Friedham Award.
