Every single performance was first rate, from the bands who opened the Festival at Mingus Park to Jazz at Jardins with Darrell Grant and On The Territory. In-between came the delights of charlie freak at Rogers Zoo, a sparkling performance by Soulpie at Shore Acres, the Lab Band's top-flight ensemble Evolution at the Egyptian Theatre, and the virtuoso improvisation of Inner Limits at the OIMB Boathouse. But the greatest performances were the three Festival Orchestra concerts. Jason Klein's two concerts were brilliant, with the Pops as audience-friendly as ever. And it was such a treat to have Festival Orchestra members concertmaster Hernan Constantino and principal cellist Thomas Megee appear as conductor and soloist on the closing program. Indeed, we held a world-class Festival in 2009! And now that the 2010 Festival is rapidly approaching, we again need the volunteers and community support that made last year so special. Bay may be a long way from Portland or San Francisco, but the concerts
of the Oregon Coast Music Festival rival the best heard in the bigger
cities. Live orchestral classical music performed before a regional
audience is a rare cultural jewel. It deserves our respect and
support." ----Keith Henty, JEFFERSON PUBLIC RADIO
